Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation agenda continues to advance with the official launch of VerifyTT, a national digital credential verification platform developed by the National Information and Communication Technology Company Limited (iGovTT), a state agency under the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence.
More than a credential verification platform, VerifyTT represents an important component of Trinidad and Tobago’s emerging Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) — the secure digital systems that enable trusted, seamless, and efficient interactions between citizens, institutions, businesses, and government.
Just as a passport confirms who you are when you travel, in the digital world, Digital Public Infrastructure helps verify identities, credentials, and information securely and instantly.
VerifyTT forms part of Trinidad and Tobago’s national trust infrastructure, providing a secure digital platform for issuing, validating, storing, and sharing verified credentials and other trusted information. The platform’s first sectoral implementation is within the tertiary education sector, where institutions can securely issue and verify academic and professional credentials in real time.
As VerifyTT expands into additional sectors, it will strengthen trust, reduce fraud, and improve the secure exchange of verified information across the public and private sectors, helping to build a more connected, secure, and digitally enabled society. Beyond its first sectoral implementation in tertiary education and training, other priority use cases already underway include the Registrar General’s Department for civil registry records and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) for Certificates of Character. These initiatives form part of an extensive pipeline of future implementations that will further strengthen transparency, efficiency, and integrity in public and private sector services and transactions.
As concerns surrounding credential fraud and misrepresentation continue to rise globally, VerifyTT provides a timely and forward-looking solution that protects the authenticity of qualifications while modernising how institutions, employers, and regulatory bodies verify information.
By reducing reliance on manual verification processes, the platform significantly improves efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness across institutions while allowing authorised users to instantly verify credentials with confidence.
VerifyTT also reflects the Government’s broader vision for Digital Public Infrastructure as a foundation for national development and digital transformation. Much like physical infrastructure supports economic and social activity in everyday life, trusted digital infrastructure enables safer online transactions, more efficient services, and stronger public confidence in digital systems.
Senator The Honourable Professor Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education, remarked at the recent launch:
“It allows students and graduates to have immediate access to verified, shareable digital credentials through a digital wallet. The transmission and verification process is shortened from weeks to minutes.”
As Trinidad and Tobago continues its journey toward a modern digital economy, VerifyTT stands as a practical example of how innovation through government and agencies like iGovTT can strengthen trust, improve institutional efficiency, and build the digital foundations necessary for future growth and national competitiveness.
VerifyTT is now live and available to tertiary educational and training institutions nationwide, marking a major milestone in the country’s evolving digital, higher education, and public infrastructure ecosystem.
